Privacy policy
Last updated 17 September 2026. This policy covers the ERAS Africa Learning website (learn.erasafrica.org) and the ERAS Africa Learning Android app, which opens the same website.
Who we are
The app is run by ERAS Africa with the Ethiopian Association of Anesthetists. Contact: Amare.Hailekiros@uog.edu.et.
What we collect
- Account details you enter when you register: full name, email address, profession, institution and region, and a password that is stored only as a salted hash.
- Learning records: which lessons you completed, your answers to knowledge checks and tests, reflections you write, points and badges, the time of your last visit, and any certificate issued to you.
- Technical records kept by the web server for security: IP address, browser type, pages requested, and failed login attempts. These are deleted on the host's normal log rotation.
We do not collect location, contacts, photos, device identifiers or advertising identifiers. The app requests no special permissions.
Why we use it
- To save your progress so you can continue on any device.
- To issue and verify your certificate. The public verification page shows the name, institution, course, score, CEU value and date on the certificate to anyone who enters its number.
- To send you a welcome message, your certificate link, password reset links, and occasional course updates from ERAS Africa. Each course update tells you why you received it.
- To report anonymised, aggregated statistics (numbers of learners, completions and average scores) to ERAS Africa, the Ethiopian Association of Anesthetists and partners. Individual records are seen only by the app's administrators.
Where it is stored
Data is stored in the app's own database on the hosting account that also serves erasafrica.org, protected by HTTPS. It is not sold, rented or shared with advertisers. It is not transferred to third party analytics services. Emails are sent through the hosting provider's mail server.
Cookies
One session cookie keeps you logged in. The browser may also store your progress locally as a backup so the course can resume if the connection drops. No advertising or tracking cookies are used.
Your choices
- You can update your name, profession, institution and region on your profile page.
- You can ask for your account and all learning records to be deleted by emailing Amare.Hailekiros@uog.edu.et from the address on the account. Certificates already issued are kept in the verification register unless you ask for them to be revoked.
- Learners must be health professionals or students aged 18 or over; the app is not directed at children.
Moodle and the website
The ERAS Africa Moodle (moodle.erasafrica.org) and the erasafrica.org website keep their own accounts and are covered by their own notices.
Changes
We will post any change to this policy on this page and note the date above.
